Who is this Marcus Foster?

marcus-foster-smiling Eyes of Amber ran a great article on Marcus Foster today on t5m.  While familiar with his music, I, like Amber, know little about the man behind the voice.  For example, I knew that Marcus was into art and sculpture, but I did not know that he was pursuing a degree in it.

As if being a musician isn’t enough creative expression, Marcus is studying sculpture at the Royal College of Arts. While working on some new pieces he recently injured his thumb on a band saw. In order to give it a chance to heal, he did have to cancel a London show, but there was no permanent damage.  In his line of work and study, that thumb is very important! He plans to complete his degree next spring.

My favorite part of the article concerns Marcus’ early musical inspirations:

Finally, it was Tom Waits who inspired Marcus to write his own songs. You can still hear the resonance of some of those early influences in his music.

I love it because I am a huge Tom Waits fan and I can definitely see pieces of him in Marcus’ songs.  Click here to see Marcus doing a Tom Waits cover at a recent show.

Sadly though, Marcus’ time in America has ended and he is now back in London.  He announced via Twitter that he plans to return to the States in December and I know that this little fan is hoping that he will return to the Lone Star State for at least one show.

  1. Who is Marcus, indeed. I have scoured the Internet (okay, just Google) looking for some information on the man behind the music and have come up with nada. I mean, I’m not asking for naked pics or anything, just maybe a glimpse of his photography or sculpture. Is it such a crime that I want to know when his birthday is? lol

I need more Marcus. Stat. ;-)
