Mix Tape Monday: Matt Pond PA

featuring Matt Pond PA!

Source: Matt Pond PA’s MySpace

This week, we chose Matt Pond PA as our featured band. And we didn’t just pick them for this picture that makes me think we should all be a little worried, or that are the most brilliant band I know! I mean, seriously, who has an axe?!? These guys!

Many of you are going to be seeing these dudes up close and personal very soon, since Bobby Long will be supporting them on their tour starting in May.

From their Facebook page:

From a cabin in the woods outside of Bearsville, NY–where there’s nothing much to do but watch the grass grow up with the coyotes, deer, turkeys, and yes, bears–Matt Pond let go of all those studio entanglements and hacked off a piece of his own fate. Trusting in the flicker at the end of the tunnel, he gives us The Dark Leaves, due April 13th 2010.

In this era of technological advancements, it’s remarkable that something can be repaired the old-fashioned way — dismantling the gears to put it all back together again. After almost giving up on the world outside the woods, Matt Pond, with the invaluable aid of Chris Hansen (engineer, co-producer), returns with The Dark Leaves. It’s a record about surrendering and not, about being done with darkness and having something to sing about it.

Also available from these cabin sessions are the digital, nine-song EP Auri Sacra Fames (currently available exclusively online) and coming soon is “The Threeep,” a set of three 7″, three-song singles with as many songs each (three A-Sides, three Instrumentals, three B-Sides), which conveniently clip together into a cube. Contributing to these sessions are Eve Miller on cello, Christian Frederickson on viola and Dan Crowell on drums. The first installment of the limited-edition vinyl series is available for purchase HERE and on iTunes, with the final two being released in early 2010.

“Starting,” the first single from the “The Threeep,” features the following tracks:

Side A: “Starting” (from The Dark Leaves)
Side B: “Stopping” (non-album track)
Side B: “The Colour Out Of Space” (non-album track)

Personally, this song stuck out the most for me. Why? First, the kick ass video looks like it came from an era of time when all videos were kick ass… the 80s! Being transported back to my childhood FTW! And secondly, come on! This could be LiLi and I’s theme song! For reals.

Of course, these guys got all the social media stuff going on! Twitter, Facebook, MySpace, and their very own website! And most importantly, get on over to the tour page and get your tickets! A great opener and a great headliner?! How did we get so lucky?!?

We Hit the Motherload!

So it’s Friday and what better way to spend Friday night than with a good bottle of wine and your fave CD of the guys?? Um, how about Friday night with a bottle wine, your fave CD AND some fan fiction? Yes, you read that right, FAN FICTION. It has come to these bloggers’ attention that there are a couple of sites dedicated to the writing of fan fiction that may or may not be starring…um…three guys that we feature here quite a bit. Not all at the same time, mind you….well….at least not yet. One can only hope, no? Heh. (Amber Edit: No, my hope is going into the “I hope we NEVER see it” realm.)

The guys may not “be” together but they do pretty much all interact with one another and NO ONE is off limits in these fics. Parents, friends, managers, other band mates.  Nor are any ::ahem:: adult situations off limits either. It’s all gold my friends, GOLD.

Conducting Research

And because we are dedicated bloggers, Amber and I spent the last two days going through all the stories to bring you the very best.

Now, before we proceed here, let us tell you first that it takes some big cojones to publish any type of writing online where anyone can see it. So, we are not here to bash authors….but let’s be honest here….this was at times verra second hand embarrassing to sift through. So for the sake of everyone involved we will be using fake names– to protect the guilty innocent.

Now onto the goods:

Amber’s Picks

I had to, right off the bat, go and find the one and only, um Shmarcus fic there was. Cause, you know, I have an unhealthy obsession with him. Okay, I do with all the guys but you knew this already. I mean, look around…. Yep, this one is called Drawn to You and you will L-O-V-E the synopsis!

Remma loves to draw. People, no musicians, are Remma’s favorite drawing subjects. Remma’s dad runs a small bar in New York City, ‘The Yellow Submarine’, where many up and coming artist come to play. It is also a great hole in the wall bar where many celebrities will come to have a quiet night of drinking with good music.

When Remma returns home to the bar to help her dad after the death of her older brother, Remma meets a new group of people who change her life. One of whom is instantly drawn to her.

Guess who that one is?!? SQUEE! Mad points to this one for trying to use English terms appropriately, making, er, Cam Smadley a party animal (what’s new?) and for the lead female’s first run in with Cam being at the show at Poor David’s Pub in Dallas. I was there, too! I should’ve found this chick and made friends! (LiLi Edit: Damn! You could’ve totes been IN this story!) (Amber Edit: I know, right?!?)

The next, um, recommendation (?) from me is a fic with a whole bunch of peeps. Like, everyone, except Shmarcus. People are making me sad by leaving out Shmarcus. C’mon, I love me some Shmarcus.

We Won’t Run is only 3 chappys in and it is quite an interesting conundrum (look at that $10 word) the lead female character has herself in. Just read this and TELL me you are not intrigued!

Wacueline is a musician from London who’s fate leads her to meet Lobby Bong. The two seem perfect for one another and it doesn’t take long for the pair to fall in love. Lobby invited Wac on tour with him to the states. When their tour takes them to Vancouver, CA; that’s when everything changes.

Temptation lures Wac into realms of desire she never new existed, and starts a love affair with not one, but two men.

Dun, dun DUUUUUUUUN! Who is the man who solidifies temptation? Spoiler alert… it’s Cam Schmadley! ::gasp::

Mega cool points to this story for making a love triangle with two of the guys, adding in a very famous friend (He Who’s Name Must Not Be Spoken on This Site) and making him a major c*ckblock, and for single handedly making me blush like an 8 year old who just heard the word boob, or accidentally changed the channel to Skinemax. (LiLi Edit: HAHAHA! YES! Like when you first find the goodness of late night TV and you know you shouldn’t watch but you can’t help it. All the while clutching the remote so you can change the channel if your parents walk in. Well, that’s what I’ve heard happens.)

LiLi’s Picks

Man. This was hard (TWSS). There were so many that I wanted to include but because of time and decency (cause there are some doozies there. Some real hum-dingers– literally). But if I have to pick two, then it’s gotta be these two:

The first really doesn’t need a whole lot of summary because it’s based on a certain singer’s song, Passport, and is aptly titled, Passport. So you know– strip clubs, the strippers in these clubs, bathrooms, alcohol, and yes a passport is involved. I’ll let you draw your own conclusions.

The second on my list is a Lobby Bong story called, My Only. Lobby and his long-time girlfriend, Bambry, break up, get back together, suffer the distance while he’s on tour– SPOILER ALERT– get married and may or may not have little manbanged babies together. It’s all angst, all the time. And, again, a Certain Someone, is once again a big ol’ c*ckblocker in this story. Heh. And everyone makes an appearance in this story– and I mean, everyone. (Amber Edit: She does. Seriously. It’s like 7 degrees of Lobby Bong.) Genius. All of it. Although, man, did it make me blush. Srsly. I was kept looking over my shoulder to see if anyone could see what I was reading. Probs didn’t help that I was researching reading these at work.

So that’s it my dear readers– that’s all we have for you today. I hoped you liked this Friday’s edition of FanFicFriday!

This post was all done in good fun, because, well, Amber and I tend to poke fun at what we like, so no harm intended on people who wrote these, who we have never met and are probs in real life just as normal as we are. Er…well…we are fangirls. Who run a blog about 3 guys we don’t know. So see? Just call us Pot and Kettle.

Did someone just ask for MORE Bobby pics?

Well then you are in luck, because today, for your viewing enjoyment, we bring you some more new pics from Dallas!  One of our kick ace readers, Becky, was kind enough to send us her pics from Bobby show at Poor David’s for us all to ogle view.

Dood. He has teeth!

I feel like this pic might have been the part of the show where an unnamed guy (who might have been identified but LiLi here wasn’t paying attention) started shouting that he loved Bobby. It totes caught him off guard and he started laughing. The whole thing was pretty hilar.

Sidenote: if anyone got video of that part of the show, please to be sending it to us!

Check out the rest of Becky’s pics (clicky to enlarge):

Were you also at the show that night? Do you have any pics to share? Or maybe you know who the bald head belongs to in some of these pics– if so let us know!

Thanks again Becky for all the great pics! <3!!

Also, sorry for the twitter teases yesterday.  Amber and I stumbled across the motherload and wanted to post today but we are still, um, “researching” and “gathering evidence”. We hope to post tomorrow, so be sure to follow us on twitter so you’ll know when we post all the awesomeness.

Sam Can’t Stand the Rain

So it’s almost midnight here in the Lone Star state, which is about 3 hours past my bedtime, but I just couldn’t go to bed without blogging about this. I mean, Amber and I have been blog fail the last few days, but there was really nothing going on and then today, bam! We got hit with Sam! Man, I love when it’s late and I can still throw out rhymes.

Anyhoodle– Sam tweeted us a new video today. A cover of Ann Peebles, “I Can’t Stand the Rain”. In case you haven’t heard the OG version, I did a ton of research, i.e. typed it into YouTube search bar, and found it for you all to hear first:

Holy Shy-za! I love her voice. So I was a little wary about clicking play on Sam’s version. What if it was all wrong? What if it ruined the o-ridge for me? So I got all Nervous Nellie but forged ahead and played it. And?? Like you all care what I think. But, in case you do…totes loved it. #Duh. I actually dug the acoustic accompanying it. And despite Sam’s not liking his “face control”– um– I like his facial expressions. Is that creepster to write? Probs.

Now, enough of my blabbering opinions. Check it out for yourself:

What do you think about the cover? You likey? Or not so much-y?  Does it make you miss Sam all the more? I know it does for this little fangirl.

PS– while you’re here on the world wide web, why not stop by our twitter and follow us? All the kids are doing it!

Saturday Morning Concert: Bobby in Dallas (Pt. 2)

So. Um. I didn’t post the Bobby pics from Dallas on Wednesday, like I said I would. Or the day after. And so on. But there was a really good reason. Basically, both me and my camera were FAIL. I couldn’t (and still can’t) get the pics off my camera and I may or may not be just now returning to normal from St. Patty’s Day. See, told ya. I’m an old lady. I can’t hang like I used to. But I don’t want to not have anything from Bobby’s Dallas show, so to the interwebs I go!

Without further ado, here are some Bobby vids from his show at Poor David’s Pub, in Dallas, on Tuesday:

My personal fave of the night, where he dedicated “Who Have You Been Loving” to Tiger Woods, FTW! I might love him a bit more now for that.

Both videos were found on lisawentzel’s YouTube. She’s got a few other Bobby and Sam videos posted so be sure to check out them out as well.

These last few are courtesy of @Valleegrl. She was gracious enough to not only save me a seat that night (cause this supa fangirl didn’t realize the show was at 7pm and not 8– whoops) but to also video a few songs for us too. Thanks Val! You rock! ;)

And, as promised, Bobby’s new song, I Give Her Love:

So what did you think of the new song? Yay, Nay, Still thinking about Tiger Woods?

Well, that’s it for this Saturday’s edition of Saturday Morning Concert! Thanks for joining us!

Do you have any videos from recent, or even not so recent, concerts that you would like to share for Saturday Morning Concert? Send ‘em to us here! ;)
