The Magicness of Google, aka Bringing Random Weirdos to the Music of Sam and Marcus…

One of the things that Amber and I do here behind the scenes of the ol’ Shack, besides gchat, is we religiously check our stats page. Not because we are looking at number of visitors, but because we want to see exactly what is bringing people to our site. The more we get “Sam Bradley” or “Marcus Foster” hits, the more we know we are reaching people. It helps us to “tag” our posts so when people are searching for things like “new music” or “music video” they will see us in search engines and hopefully stop by and learn about the guys.

But, of course, we can’t be that serious bidness about it all. We also like to use the “tags” to make each other laugh and see if the other notices a joke or a jab. And that is when magic happens. Our random tags bring us the most random internet searches, which is cool, because it’s new people hopefully finding new music…but sometimes…yeah, sometimes it’s just ODD to see what people search. And then I have to gchat Amber with a “SHUTTHEFRONTDOOR, go look at our search page!”.

So, today I give you some of the best we’ve seen the past month. Yes, this is only from the last 30 days. One of these days, I will sit down and make an All-Time search list because man, there are some doozies, but for now, here’s a short sample. Italics are my thoughts while reading them. Enjoy!

So there you have it. Just a small peek into the goodness that we see on our stats page everyday. It’s pretty much the only reason we keep this blog going. Well, I mean, other than the fact that we love Sam and Marcus. Obviously.

where we address the bobbyphant in the room…

what? i don't see anything....

Yeah. So, you all noticed. You are onto us. There is one less name up there on that ol’ nav bar and one less floating head over there on the right. We honestly didn’t think the twelve readers we have anyone would notice.  But you have. And you have let us know that you have. Whether it be in DMs, emails, texts, discussing it in forums….you’ve all had the same question for us– what the FU….no, I kid….there was no cussing.  But a number of you guys have wondered the same thing so we figured we’d go ahead and address it here.

Let’s just get it out in the open, shall we?

Why did we remove Bobby Long from the site?

Well, to be honest, it wasn’t a big “OMG-let’s-dump-Bobby-cause-we-hate-him-now” thing. We just felt it was right. Like the equivalent of dating a REALLY nice guy and then realizing that there really isn’t any chemistry there, even though you have TONS of fun together, you just know deep down they aren’t the ONE. And then you break up and your friends all bombard you with, “BUT y’all were PERFECT! What HAPPENED?”

Nothing happened. At all. Bobby didn’t do anything wrong. We didn’t stop loving his music. We just realized that we wanted to focus on Sam and Marcus.

When we started this blog last year, we did it as a way to continue fangirling over the three guys we saw over a kick ass weekend in Dallas. Amber and I met for the first time, bonded over our fangirl squeeing and we didn’t want it to end so to speak, so we decided to start a blog.  We knew there was already support out there for the guys, by the way of the Land of Dreamers, but we weren’t looking to horn in on their “territory”, aka creating street teams and such. Really we just wanted a way to make fun of our own fangirliness.  So we went a different route– one where we could share news concerning the guys but also have a bit of fun too.

And then not too long ago, a new site opened, i.e. Music Bobby Long which was pretty kick ass if you ask me. Amber and I were like WHOA, and then we were jeal cause we wanted forum too but we were (and still are) too poor to do anything but have this free hosted blog. We still went with posting Bobby news cause that’s what we did, however, it quickly became apparent that we couldn’t keep up. I mean, there were two of us posting on three guys and something was always getting missed. So, after some chatting, we decided that it would be better to have any Bobby news come from them. We just didn’t want it to seem like we were “competing”, yanno?

So that was it. We deactivated his pages (but didn’t delete them– it’s like keeping our “couple” pics around hidden deep in a drawer somewhere) and decided to just keep on posting like nothing happened. We were like, no one will notice. Boy were we wrong.

And there you have it. No big dramz. No crazy sordid stories. Although, Amber and I did have fun coming up with fake stories on why we “broke up” with Bobby.  And then we imagined it going down just like this– except in a breaking up sort of way.

Amber is Maverick and I am Goose. Naturally.

Now, it’s your turn. Are you disappointed we broke up? Did you have a theory of why we “dumped” Bobby? Let us know…come on….DO IT!

Mix Tape Monday: Jay Rodger

featuring

Jay Rodger

Photos from Jay Rodger’s Myspace

Okay. Confession. I first came across Jay here while looking at some recent Bobby Long videos. He has a pretty dang good cover of Crooked Sky that popped up in a search:

So naturally, I went looking for more of his works and I came across his myspace where he has a few original songs posted for a listen. I knew pretty quickly that I would like to feature him here on Mix Tape Monday.  Especially when I started reading his blog entries.  He made me laugh at his self-deprecating ways.

It’s sweet when I’m in the music, like really feeling the song I’m playing and the rest of the world gets lost around me. It’s a great feeling when the audience links to the song, and at the end when I open my eyes I can see people daydreaming all around the room….

Or maybe I’ve just bored them.

We’ll go with the first yeah?

Um, yeah. He sounds like my kind of people. And others seem to agree that he is definitely someone to watch.

From Studio 49:

In amongst the theatres, tourists, students & building sites that currently reside in a small town known Stratford-upon-Avon there lies a single singer / song writer by the name ‘Jay Rodger’. Jay, taking influences from a range of musical greats brings it all together in a unique style of songs that can only be described as ‘Groovesum’. Think Bob Dylan meets Imogen Heap – sailing melodies that glide over delicate guitar playing, catchy hooks & an entrancing style of performance – Jay has it all.

All videos from dh130i’s youtube channel.

Want more?? You can find Jay on myspace, twitter and reverbnation.

And now it’s your turn to talk….what did you think of ol’ Jay here? Yay, nay? Let us know!

Bobby on Fearless! And further proof we are the worst #fangirls EVA!

As probably all of you know, Bobby was on Fearless Radio Monday doing a kick ace interview, playing some tunes and all around being his typical awesome self. Cause that is what he does. #duh

Download (yes, I said DOWNLOAD, as in you can put it on your iPod and listen FOREVER!) at Fearless Radio!

Unfortunately, real life has been kicking both me and LiLi’s behind lately, and, um, we haven’t gotten to listen yet. We are SO going to, as soon as either of us can stick our heads up out of the water for more then 3.25 seconds and breathe. So, in the mean time we decided you all should listen to it, write a brief summary (500 words or less) on what Bobby said and be sure to include at least 3 quotes that equate awesomeness from the Bobster.

Please and thank you!

Oh, can’t forget this! Best summary gets a superly awesome prize… this VIDEO of Bobby on Fearless!

Wait, I guess I shouldn’t have given you the prize before you did the homework. DAMN!

Mix Tape Monday: Matt Pond PA

featuring Matt Pond PA!

Source: Matt Pond PA’s MySpace

This week, we chose Matt Pond PA as our featured band. And we didn’t just pick them for this picture that makes me think we should all be a little worried, or that are the most brilliant band I know! I mean, seriously, who has an axe?!? These guys!

Many of you are going to be seeing these dudes up close and personal very soon, since Bobby Long will be supporting them on their tour starting in May.

From their Facebook page:

From a cabin in the woods outside of Bearsville, NY–where there’s nothing much to do but watch the grass grow up with the coyotes, deer, turkeys, and yes, bears–Matt Pond let go of all those studio entanglements and hacked off a piece of his own fate. Trusting in the flicker at the end of the tunnel, he gives us The Dark Leaves, due April 13th 2010.

In this era of technological advancements, it’s remarkable that something can be repaired the old-fashioned way — dismantling the gears to put it all back together again. After almost giving up on the world outside the woods, Matt Pond, with the invaluable aid of Chris Hansen (engineer, co-producer), returns with The Dark Leaves. It’s a record about surrendering and not, about being done with darkness and having something to sing about it.

Also available from these cabin sessions are the digital, nine-song EP Auri Sacra Fames (currently available exclusively online) and coming soon is “The Threeep,” a set of three 7″, three-song singles with as many songs each (three A-Sides, three Instrumentals, three B-Sides), which conveniently clip together into a cube. Contributing to these sessions are Eve Miller on cello, Christian Frederickson on viola and Dan Crowell on drums. The first installment of the limited-edition vinyl series is available for purchase HERE and on iTunes, with the final two being released in early 2010.

“Starting,” the first single from the “The Threeep,” features the following tracks:

Side A: “Starting” (from The Dark Leaves)
Side B: “Stopping” (non-album track)
Side B: “The Colour Out Of Space” (non-album track)

Personally, this song stuck out the most for me. Why? First, the kick ass video looks like it came from an era of time when all videos were kick ass… the 80s! Being transported back to my childhood FTW! And secondly, come on! This could be LiLi and I’s theme song! For reals.

Of course, these guys got all the social media stuff going on! Twitter, Facebook, MySpace, and their very own website! And most importantly, get on over to the tour page and get your tickets! A great opener and a great headliner?! How did we get so lucky?!?
