I woke up this morning to all kinds of good news about Bobby and Sam. It just seems that all the good news is not

Personally, we are just so happy the Canadians finally let you into their country. I thought as I was gonna have to go up there and have a talk with them about this.*cracks knuckles* Beware, I am scrappy!
Most importantly, this little update included the posting of SEVERAL new tour dates. Woo hoo!! Go see which show you are going to over on our Bobby Long Tour Dates page. And if you are going to the Dallas show, you may even meet me and LiLi. Try to meet us early in the night. Things get a little fuzzy over time…
And then there is Sam, the newest Shack of Soul fan! That little trickster went and posted an AMAZING new video with himself and Stone Jack Jones signing Lost Highway and didn’t tell anybody!
It is very moving and you all do not want to miss this!
Be sure to subscribe to Sam’s YouTube page so you never miss an update from him!
Lots of good stuff this morning. It only leaves me with one question. Marcus! Where are you?!? We miss you and need some good news from you soon!!

Tampa loves Bobby!
Soundcheck magazine, dubbed Tampa’s ultimate music guide, gave Bobby rave reviews for his recent show at Dunedin Brewery.
Throughout the evening, a shaggy-haired Long showed his love for Elliott Smith, Gram Parsons and Nick Drake, though his take on sad, twangy folk always seemed very much original, relevant and engaging. Perhaps his most stunning performance came on Two Years Old, inspired by his grandfather, a pilot in WWII.
And they offered up this new pic:

Which is the target??
The best news (for all you Florida residents) is that Dunedin’s general manager, Travis Krueger, confirmed what we posted earlier about Bobby’s worst-kept-secret-secret show this Thursday.
If you missed Long on Sunday, you have another chance to catch him this Thursday. He’ll play an impromptu, “not-so-secret, secret show” at 7 p.m. said Dunedin Brewery general manager Travis Krueger.
“He loved the venue, and us here at the venue liked him quite a bit, and we see A LOT of live music,” Kruger said. “So we are very happy there will be another opportunity not only for his fans to see him but also to try to turn more people on to his music.”

Words from Bobby on the Road
Bobby gave us a small glimpse of what he’s seen on the road, and what it was like being deported from Canada getting thrown out of a tattoo parlor in Seattle, on his MySpace page. Have I mentioned how completely hilarious these guys are?!?
from a basement on the hill
Arrived in Portland early evening and made my way to the venue where i was playing for the sound check. Being a huge elliott smith fan i went to a bar he used to hang out in. I headed back to the venue before being whisked off my feet by a local owner of a shop called VooDoo Donuts. He knew Elliott Smith and took me on a tour before dropping me off on stage for my set. The venue was great, although it being all ages there had to be a divider between over 21 and under 21. This basically meant they could not see each other and one half was intoxicated and the other half were not. It was a great show and was sold out. Walking between the two sides was like walking from Soho to the Vatican. The next day we flew to Seattle. It was really beautiful flying over and being a big fan of grunge music I was really happy to be there. I walked into a tattoo parlor to get a tattoo before being thrown out because I was English. The tattoo shop owner was English and obviously didn’t want competition. I went on stage about half ten to a full crowd and the warm up band was great. It was weird not being able to drink on stage so I would occasionally run back stage to knock down a beer, much to peoples delight. I headed out into Seattle with a few people who I met at the gig and had a great time. Seattle was one of the best crowds and were so supportive and pleased for me to be there. I couldn’t stay out too late because I had a 5:30am train to Canada. Getting up in the morning was like separating fighting dogs but I made it on the train in time and got to the border, tired but well. I’ve never been deported in such a friendly and efficient manner. Supposedly this happened to Keith Richards but I haven’t spoken to him about it yet. Going back to Canada in a couple of weeks and I’m looking forward to it. Had to cancel a sold out show but so far heard people were singing my songs outside the venue so I am looking forward to making it up to them.

Bobby Long @ the Hi-Dive
Yesterday, The AV Club, which is an offshoot of the spoof paper The Onion, published an article recapping Bobby’s show in Denver. Now, I know that The Onion is notorious for their mock headlines and digs at famous people, but The AV Club is actually their “serious” section and they do some kick ass interviews covering all types of media.
They gave Bobby nothing but praise as you can tell from this quote:
Long’s performance was by all accounts a great one, and the bluesy vocalist put on a surprisingly heartfelt show to a crowd that felt a little bit distracted.
Did you happen to notice the bit at the end about distracted fans? I sure did. Now, I want this blog to be nothing but a positive place for fans to come and get info and perhaps check out pics and vids from these guys but I feel like taking a minute to address this issue. It seems lately that there have been several shows, and not just Bobby’s but at the other guys too, where more people were concerned about being seen at the show than actually listening to the show. Take this quote also from the AV Club article:
In fact, crowd chatter during Long’s set was so loud, his gritty voice barely registered on an otherwise regular Wednesday evening.
Hey, to each his own, but as someone who loves to attend small venue shows such as the places these guys play, I can attest to it being very distracting to the listeners and down right rude to the performers. So before I get all “mom” on you guys, just please show a little respect for both these artists and the fans that actually, I dunno, want to hear them play??
