The biggest casualty of our unexpected break… THE Sam Interview!

Soooooo…. this is probably the most awkward post of all before things get back to normal. We are horrible, horrible bloggers.

Before real life decided to kick us both in the figurative balls, we did this little interview with Sam. We worked on it, got everything about 15 minutes away from posting… then never did. Maybe it was because we were embarrassed. My level of drunkenness and nervous giddy laughing during the interview hit a new high (thanks a LOT to happy hour) and LiLi’s unabashed flirting and falling in love (aka arguing over sports) with John Notto made us both kind of cringe later when we listened to the audio. All I can say is, there is a reason we don’t video interviews. Ever. Cause our editing skillz blow and it’s a lot easier to cut out those embarrassing parts when you are transcribing. Thanks goodness.

BUT, we got some real gems in the interview. Gems, I tell you. We may or may not be working on making some little audio clips of certain parts because they make us truly happy. And yes, some of these questions aren’t as, um, timely as they were then, but it’s still Sam and some of the answers are still fantastic so we are saying screw it and posting them anyway.

So, without further ado and excuse making, we present to you, our interview with Sam!

After the jump, cause this shiz is LONG! (TWSS) Read the rest of this entry

Day 3: The Songs

Amber’s Fave Live Performance

This may have been the hardest for me. One, I have not been to a bad Sam Bradley show yet, nor have I hated anything he has done on stage. And two, to pick just one song (and actually find a video for it) is the hardest thing ever. There are some songs I’ve liked, but couldn’t find videos for. And I can’t do video on my own. No way. The alcohol just does not allow me to hold a camera steady. Shocking, I know.

So when I talked to LiLi, I told her probably one of my fave shows was the last one I saw. Maybe cause it’s fresh on the mind or maybe because the album was just out and we got some new tunes. Who knows? LiLi can’t help cause she wasn’t there. (I know. We are still sad about that.)

The funny thing is… my fave song of the night was the last song Sam played, and the first song I ever heard by Sam. Maybe it’s cheesy and cliché , but this song still gets me. Every time. Even more so now because I think Sam plays it better then he did way back in the infant stages of my Sam love.

P.S. I’m pretty sure I can hear myself talking at the beginning, which always freaks me out especially when I have no idea who is recording.

Yes, the talking is so annoying. It always is. But c’mon. Does this song not just hit you in the gut? Does it not leave you just wishing for more? I mean, as the last song of the night, I was just drained following it. I love the emotions I feel when I hear it.

Maybe that is just me. And that’s cool. But damn y’all, I don’t think I’ll ever get over this song or this performance. Sam sets a new bar for me each time he performs. It really does get better every time. Which is why I love Sam, even with all the shitty jokes.

LiLi’s Fave Song Live

You know it’s funny– Amber and I met through Sam’s music first. And then as time went on (and we started to talk about other things) we realized that we do in fact share the same brain. Most of the time. Usually, we finish each other sentences and thoughts and then laugh about how much we think alike. But despite our common bond of music, there is one divide in our relationship. One that parts us like the Red Sea…

Amber likes ballads while I like fast songs.

::gasp::

I know. It’s like we are the Capulets and the Montagues. And yet, despite our differences, she is still my non-sexual lesbian life partner.

I tell you this to show that while we both heart Sam like WHOA, we see him in two totally different ways. And our favorite live performances couldn’t be more opposite. While she is drawn to his ballads, as you can see above, I am more into his faster music. Like “Derek”. I remember clearly hearing it live for the first time, that very first time we ever saw Sam in concert at Poor Davids. The whole show has a special place in my heart for many reasons, so naturally, when Amber and I decided Day 3 was going to be “favorite song live” I knew immediately it had to be this song from that night.

For me, when I see an artist or band live for the first time, no matter how much I may love their album or single, I am always wary of their live performance. What if it doesn’t translate well on stage? What if without all the studio “help” it just isn’t the same?

I usually spend the first show completely still, absorbing it all, waiting until I am at home to process it all. Every once in a while though, I will be at a show and there will be a song or a moment from the artist where I am like, “YES” and then I am in it. I feel a connection to the music and the artist and once that is established I am a fan forever.

And, that my friends is what happened when I heard “Derek” that night back in August of 2009. That was the moment that I became a Sam fan. So, without further a do….please take a trip down memory lane with me. And love this song as much as I do.

Sorry to get all Serious Sam around here today…but sometimes we just gotta show our other side. That despite all the jokes and shenanigans we really are fans of the music first and foremost. Without it we wouldn’t be here. We wouldn’t be posting/tweeting/telling our friends and family about Sam and The Men.

Can we all hug now?

Now, what about you? What’s your fave song to hear live?

having contests is RAD…announcing the winner is RADer…

In case you forgot, since instead of sending promotion tweets we like to talk about sausage, gchats and cleavage (duh), Amber here was awesome enough to get an extra copy of Sam Bradley’s Zuni last Friday to giveaway. And to make her even more awesomer, she got it signed! And then she may or may not have nuzzled it against her exposed chest for the rest of the night. She claims it was because she was afraid she would lose it, while I maintain that she was just drunk enough that she thought she was holding Sam himself, but whatevs.

Either way, we have our winner today! We assigned all entries a number and then put the total in random.org, hit “generate” and VOLIA! A winner!

So, without further ado, the winner of the signed copy of Zuni goes to….

Julie

And I am so pumped it was her that got picked….check out her comment entry:

I want to win Zuni!

So far, this thing has been bad luck for me. I was on a cruise when it came out, so had to wait til I got back to get it from iTunes. As my luck would have it, in the middle of downloading, my iTunes crashed! Still waiting to hear back from apple on how to fix this mess. Oh, and they charged me for it too, and NONE of the songs downloaded (I know, it’s only $8, but I blew what little money I had on the ship :) ! To add insult to injury, I forgot to buy my ticket for his Nashville show before leaving for my trip and, guess what? It was sold out when I got back home! That’s where my trouble started…the whole iTunes mess could’ve been avoided had I been at the show and just bought the actual CD.

Anyways, I guess I can’t pick a favorite song from it yet, since I’ve still not heard the whole thing. But I’m determined to get ahold of it somehow…

Awww….right?! It was seriously meant to be. No more sadpanda for Julie–YAY! Congrats!

Now, Julie, all you need to do is email us your mailing addy and we will get your CD out to you when we stop being lazy ASAP.  Then you will have to email us again, once you’ve had a chance to listen and tell us your fave song. ;)

Alright, LiLi out. This headache I have KILLS. I need darkness. And quiet. And possibly some spaghetti bolognese, no?

the things i do for sam…

The last few days have been a whirlwind of emotions for us here at SoS. Everything started so great– we picked the winner of our ticket giveaway Monday, announced it Tuesday, which was also the day that brought us Sam’s new album AND some effawesome pics of Marcus.

Naturally, because the Universe hates loves me, that was were our goo fortune ended, i.e. when the shitteth hit the fanneth.

In my real life, I work for the public education system as an athletic trainer and part of my job requires that I travel with any teams that make play-offs. Usually this isn’t an issue because for the most part I have always worked for schools that are, uh, let’s just say, more “academically inclined”.  Moving back to the Metroplex found me taking a job with a school that has A LOT of success at sports.

I never worried about it because I thought, what would I rather do then watch my team advance in play-offs??

Uh– watch Sam Bradley and Brooke Fraser at the HoB in Dallas, that’s what.

If you don’t follow us on twitter (shame on you if you don’t) then you have been spared my virtual wailing and gnashing of teeth as I tweeted the progress of my volleyball team on their quest for the Texas State Volleyball play-offs. As you may have guessed, they have continued to win, sending them, and by them I mean me, to the Regional Tournament…..wait for it…..THIS Friday.  Yup. The night of Sam and Brooke’s show.   I mean, don’t get me wrong I am proud of my team and truly hope they make it to State…..

but I am selfish too.

I mean, I will be missing moments like this:

from @RobbedFromAfar's yFrog

Butts grabs and shots? Um. No. I will not be denied. Therefore at 11am, yesterday morning, Amber and I activated Operation Determined LiLi.

I shall not be left out of potential drunkenness from Amber, or meeting Skuck669, the lovely winner of the pair of tickets, or my chance to finally touch Sam’s hair word vom and be socially awk. No. I shall rage against the dying of the light.

Dramatic, I know. But it’s late. And I am in my jammies. So love me through it, yeah?

So here’s what I’m gonna do people….stay with me. We play at 5pm and will be done by 7pm at the latest. I will only be two hours away, so I am taking my own car and driving back to Dallas after our game instead of riding home on the bus. I mean, getting to go to the show AND not having to ride a school bus with 22 teenage girls….uh….WIN-WIN my friends.

And I will get to see Amber in PERSON not just virtually through our daily gchats. And not let this kickass ticket go to waste! double bonus WIN.

So, in exchange for my uber creepy fangirl ways dedication to this blog, I only ask one small favor of Sam. Please to be wearing a deep v-neck tee like this one:

ohaithere manfur. please to meetcha.

deal mmmkay?

What do you think– how creepy am I to drive back right after we play our game? A little? A lot? Restraining order amount?

Winners, CDs, Tickets and Being C-blocked

The purpose of today’s post is two-fold– to announce the winner of last weeks giveaway AND to reveal the last prize in our month long giveaway event. Mainly, I just wanted a reason to use the phrase two-fold but that is neither here nor there.

So, first things first– the big winner of what I dubbed as the “We Make Amends Double the Fun Giveaway”.  The prize pack of a signed Sam Bradley and The Men (awww….one more time for Dave everyone!) poster AND the Sam Bradley EP album keychain goes to……drumroll please….

itsaboutspaceships

Yay! Congrats to, er, Mr/Ms/Miss S. Ships? Space? Hmm….I am thinking that is a username.  At least I hope it is, otherwise I am a big jackace.  Anyhoo– SpaceShips, please to be emailing us with your addy so we can mail out your amazingness. ;)

And now…..the 2nd, and most exciting part of our whole giveaway is finally upon us!  Your chance to hangout with Amber and I for one whole night!! Whoot! Okay, okay….that’s not really it.  But we are kinda apart of it, no?

Thanks to Mary at Sideways Media, who so graciously put an end to our suffering, and not only gave us a pair of tickets to see Brooke and Sam but also was super amazeballs and gave us ANOTHER pair of tickets to giveaway to you all!

That’s right– our final prize is a night of hanging out with drunk Amber

a PAIR of tickets to see Brooke Fraser (with one Mr. Sam Bradley supporting) in Dallas!!

If you live in, near, or within traveling distance of Dallas and also got c-blocked denied tickets to this SOLD OUT show, well here’s your chance to go!  And it doesn’t end with the tickets. The winner ALSO gets a SIGNED Brooke Fraser CD!

All you have to do is to follow us on twitter and then leave a comment with your twittername.  Easy peasy, no? Want more chances to win?  Go “Like” us on facebook and you will get another entry- just be sure to let us know in your comment that you “Like us” now!

You have until Sunday, November 7th at 11:59pm (central time) to enter.  Winner will be chosen at random and announced here on Tuesday, November 8th.

Good Luck to everyone!

P.S. The comments may get a bit crazy with entries so please, PLEASE do not comment unless you are officially entering. It will confuse us and we don’t like getting all confuzzled. And don’t enter if you can’t be in Dallas.  Cause we don’t want these babies to go to waste!

If you have questions, feel free to tweet us or email us at shackofsoul@hotmail.com and let us answer you that way. ‘Kay?
